Food processing facilities have not been immune to the pressures of our struggling U.S. economy. Facilities have been asked to produce more with less all the while maximizing uptime. Maintenance staffs don’t have the luxury of extended shut downs. Machinery is being asked to produce records amounts of product while not having the proper maintenance performed.

In the past six months we have seen one plant in Minnesota burn down entirely, while plants in Ohio and Utah have had severe fires and the explosion and collapse of the Conagra facility in the Carolinas. This rash of unfortunate accidents can not be the result of just chance. Maintenance staffs across the industry have done a great job of implementing preventative maintenance programs and also periodic maintenance. These programs are more important today than they ever have.
